Biography of Thomas M. Ashbrook
Absalom Ashbrook to Kentucky and died and family moved back to Virginia and then to Ohio.

Ancestors of Mary Ashbrook May

John and Absalom Ashbrook moved to Cynthiana, Kentucky and there John became a distiller. (No further reference to Absalom)

The written records regarding Absalom Ashbrook give conflicting information. The most authentic would appear to be the record written by Eli Ashbrook, brother of Absalom, in which he states that he emigrated to Pickaway County Ohio and died there. Earlier in his "Line~a-Day Book", William A. Ashbrook had stated that John and Absalom Ashbrook remved to Cynthiana, KY where John became a big distiller. This statement most probably is the origin for the very similar statement in the book "Ancestors of Mary Ashbrook May". WiJIiam A. Ashbrook compiled the “Line-a-Day Book" over a period of time. Later he obtained a copy of the article written by Eli Ashbrook
at the age of 90 which would have been written in 1871. There is no evidence that either John or Absalom Ashbrook lived in Cynthiana which is Harrison County. Descendants of Aaron3 Ashbrook lived in Harrison County KY.

Absalom Ashbrook was still in Hampshire County VA as late as 1800 according to Hampshire County records. He does not appear on the census records of Kentucky which begin in 1810 nor does he appear on either the 1790 or 1800 tax lists of Kentucky. He does not appear on the census records of Ohio which begin in 1820. He might have accompanied his brother John to Kentucky for a few years and then moved to Ohio. Absalom Ashbrook and his brothers John and Levi all married sisters, daughters of John Chenoweth. They might have all gone to Kentucky together for that reason.

Probably Absalom Ashbrook died sometime between 1800 and 1820 in Ohio, probably Pickaway County.

Muskingum County Ohio Will Bk A----1804-1814

Elias and Thomas Ashbrooke, minors
Guardian ----Jonathan Carroll

Elias and Thomas Ashbrook were very probably sons of Absalom Ashbrook. If true, Absalom Ashbrook died 1800-1814. He might have died in Pickaway County as Eli Ashbrook said and his widow moved to Muskingum County to live. In 1814 Muskingum joined Licking and Fairfield Counties. Thomas5 Ashbrook first appears on the 1830 Census of Licking County.
Elias Ashbrook first appears on the 1820 Census of Guernsey County which joins Muskingum County on the east. In 1830 Elias Ashbrook was in Coshocton County which joins Muskingum on the north, and in 1840 and 1850 Elias Ashbrook was back in Muskingum County. Thomas5 Ashbrook later moved to Delaware County where part of Eli Ashbrook's family lived. Solomon Ashbrook, who lived in Delaware County, must have been the son of Elias Ashbrook. He was too old to be the son of Thomas5 Ashbrook, and he does not fit as the son of any of the other sons of Levi3 Ashbrook.

Henry Dusenbury married Rachel Ashbrook July 31, 1816 Muskingum County Ohio.

Seth Cannday married Poll (probably Polly) Ashbrook Dec. 2, 1821 Perry County Ohio.
Married by Smith Goodin, M.G.

These two women are very probably sisters of Elias and Thomas Ashbrook. These Ashbrooks may have lived in the part of Muskingum County that was cut off to make Perry County in 1818.
