The Deposition of John Chenworth (surely John Chenoweth) and James Stewart in 1776 and recorded in the Northern Neck warrants and Surveys proves that the Aaron Ashbrook listed as heir at law of John3 Ashbrook was his son and not his brother.
Aaron4 Ashbrook, heir-at-law of John3, purchased the dower interest of his mother Hester/Esther in the land left by his father in 1775. This was a 400 acres parcel of land.
This 400 acre parcel of land was probably the same land which was sold Aug. 13, 1786 by Aaron Ashbrook of Washington County to William McGuire. A complete reading of this deed would show if this tract was the 400 acre tract. This record says "Aaron Ashbrook of Washington County".
Washington County could be either Washington County VA or Washington County PA. Since the name of the state is not given, it may mean Washington County VA. Moses3 Ashbrook was in Washington County Virginia at that time. Perhaps Aaron4 Ashbrook moved to Washington County VA to live near his uncle Moses3 Ashbrook and died in that area.
This 400 acre tract of land was the 400 acres that John3 Ashbrook inherited from his father Aaron2.
