Written by Ivy Sturdivant Watson (daughter of Henry T., son of Samuel Thomas Sturdivant)

Samuel Thomas Sturdivant was born May 21, 1830 in Alabama close to the Tuscaloosa River.
Mary Elizabeth Nelms was born in the year 1829 in Georgia. They were married and lived in Aabama a few years.

They started to Texas in a wagon train, but while traveling through Mississippi a horse fell through a bridge and broke a leg, and had to be killed. They stopped there, and 40 years later moved to Texas, after their children were grown.

Nov. 3, 1899 they arrived in Cooper, Delta County Texas.

Samuel Sturdivant had a leg amputated the day before his 70th birthday. A year os so later, they returned to Mississippi. They remained there until their deaths.

According to the tombstone record in Montevista Cemetery, Samuel T. Sturdivant and wife Mary Elizabeth were both born in 1829.

The 1900 Census gives the birth of Samuel T. Sturdivant as 1830.
The 1870 give the birth of Mary Elizabeth Nelms as 1834.
The 1880 and the 1900 Census give her birth as 1835.
