CHILDREN OF MOSES3 ASHBR00K
The 1790 census shows Moses Ashbrook's household with 2 sons over 16, 3 sons under 16 and 6 daughters. The sons over 16 were Aaron and William Ashbrook. The sons under 16 were Moses Ashbrook, James Ashbrook and 1 unidentified son. Two of the 6 daughters were Elizabeth and Sarah. The other daughters are unidentified. George and Hannah Mary Ashbrook were married and gone from home.
At first glance Moses Ashbrook Jr. seems to be so much younger than the other children of Moses Sr., but if the 6 daughters and 2 sons are inserted into the family chart, the family of Moses3 Ashbrook shows children born about every two years from George born in 1763 to Moses born in 1788.
The unidentified son may have died young since no trace of him has been found.

Defeated Creek is a fairly large stream coming off Cordell Hull Lake, a lake and dam on the Cumberland River in Smith County. Defeated Creek appears to go all the way to the KY line. Buffalo Creek is a short distance east of Defeated Creek. The area is just north of Carthage, TN.
Petitioners for Reduction of Constitution Limits of Jackson County Tennessee
The Prayer of your Humble petitioners showeth that they labour under many inconveniences by not having their County reduced to its Constitutional limits and their seat of Justice permanently fixed, relying on your clemency we hope your honorable body will pass a Law to that effect and fix our seat of Justice at Fort Blount. And your Petitioners in duty bound will ever pray on.

Moses Ashbrook, Sr.,
James Ashbrook
Moses Ashbrook, Jr.

Moses Ashbrook shows on the Smith County TN records but signed this Petition from
Jackson County. This concerned the location of the seat of Justice which must have been the courthouse. They wanted it placed at Fort Blount. Two of the above road work assignments refer to the Fort Blount Road. Probably at this time the county boundaries were not yet firmly set.

P LACES OF RESIDENCE OF MOSES3 ASHBROOK
1. Moses Ashbrook moved in 1779 from Hampshire County VA to southwest VA as is proven by the records.
2. Moses Ashbrook lived in either Montgomery or Washington County VA from 1779 through 1783.
3. From 1783 to 1790 there is no proof of where Moses Ashbrook lived. He might have gone to Tennessee with his son George who moved to Tennessee in 1784 and lived there until 1788.
In 1784 he may have moved to Buncombe County NC since his daughter Hannah Mary married Nicholas Woodfin there in about 1785. Nicholas Woodfin was definately in the Buncombe County NC area in 1785.
Moses4 Woodfin said on the 1850 census that he was born in Tennessee in 1788, but the census could be in error.
Nicholas Woodfin and Moses Ashbrook were both from Hampshire County Virginia. However Nicholas Woodfin left Hampshire County with his family about the year 1771 or 1772 and lived in Greenbriar County VA. He moved to the Buncombe County NC area in 1784.
4. Moses Ashbrook lived in Buncombe Co NC from 1790 to 1799. He left in 1799. Three grantor deeds in 1799 show that he sold his property in that year. He is not on the 1800 census of Buncombe County.
5. Moses Ashbrook appears on the Smith County TN records beginning in 1800. He appears to have joined his son George who lived in the Mero District of Tennessee from 1796 to 1800. The Mero District included the Smith Co. TN area.
The records of Smith County TN show that Moses Ashbrook Sr. and his sons William, George, James and Moses Jr. were all lving in Smith Co. TN area 1800-1809. His son Aaron Ashrook has not been found in the Smith Co. TN records.
Elizabeth4 Ashbrook, daughter of Moses, and her husband William Lewis Mackey moved from Rutherford County NC to Tennessee in 1795. The Lewis Family Genealogy says they lived in Christian Co, Robertson Co, Smith Co and Bedford Co TN. There is no Christian Co TN, but Christian Co KY is just across the state line from Robertson Co TN.
6. After 1809 nothing is known for certain where Moses Ashbrook lived or died.
On the 1812 tax list of Bedford County Tennessee appear Moses Ashbrook and William Ashbrook. This Moses Ashbrook could have been Moses Ashbrook Sr. or Jr.
Aaron Ashbrook appears in other early Bedford Co TN records. Moses Ashbrook Jr. was still in Bedford Co TN on the 1830 census. A Moses Ashbrook was involved in deeds in Bedford County TN in 1815 and 1817. If this Moses was Moses3 Ashbrook Sr., he would have been at least 75 years old at the time.
Nicholas Woodfin moved from Buncombe County NC to Bedford Co TN in 1811.. Moses Ashbrook Sr. Could have died in Bedford County TN.
However James L. Ashbrook, son of Moses Ashbrook Sr. moved across the Kentucky line
and married in Wayne County KY. He later lived in Pulaski Co. KY. Moses Ashbrook Sr. could have died in that area. More research may uncover the place of death of Moses Ashrook Sr.
