James Roberts Sr. was the first Magistrate in Shelby Creek in Pike County when it was separated from Floyd County in 1822. He was evidently a magistrate of Floyd County prior to the separation.

James Roberts Sr. deeded a tract of land in Pike County to son Cornelius Roberts Oct. 14, 1825.

Item 1---Daughter Winney Stanley land lying below Shelby Creek opposite mouth of Caney’s Fork of Shelby…the said Winnie and George Stanley paying the heirs of William Mullins the sum of $15.00.

Item 2---My son James Roberts Jr. all the land above or at the mouth of Caney Creek of Shelby and all the property that remains at my death I want equally divided between James Roberts and George Stanley and Isaac Roberts.

Item 3---Lot of land on which I live with all the orchard in my possession I retain for the use of myself and my wife during our natrual life and at our death I want my son James Roberts Jr. (put in and then marked out in the record) to heir the same and the land on the other side of the crops fence from the house I want James Roberts Jr. to attend or occupy.

In witness whereof I being in my proper mind have herunto set my hand seal the first day of
June 1858.
Attest: John J. Casebolt, J. J. Mitchell and Edward Branham.

Produced on open Court upon the 21st day of Sept. 1858 and proven by the oaths of J. J. Casbolt and J. J. Mitchell.
