When William Hancock and family left Cass County Texas about 1851-53, they lived first in McLennan County Texas. The Handbook of Waco and McLennan County Texas by Dayton Kelley
No evidence has been found to indicate he was from Missouri, but he did settle first on Stampede Creek near old Perry, Texas. When the railroad bypassed the settlement of Perry and passed through Moody, Texas, all of old Perry moved the few miles to Moody. Only the old Perry Cemetery remains to mark the location of Perry, Texas. There are numerous deed records in the General Land Office at Austin, Texas and deed records in Bell County Texas and McLennan County Texas describing the land on Stampede Creek in McLennan County where William Hancock settled on 320 acres by preemption privileges. A sworn statement by Elijah x Knowles said that William Hancock was bona-fide settled prior to Dec. 21, 1853 (General land Office, Austin, TX). The land was surveyed July 15, 1854 by G. W. Stubblefield with Joseph Knowles and Jonas Leach as chain carriers. McLennan County Texas Deed Bk H pg. 167 Oct. 5, 1855
