Joseph Buchanan:
Second son of Alexander and Rachel was born in Now York City Jan. 26, l775 near where now stands the Trinity Church.
Joseph married Jane Taylor, a native of Virginia, I do not know whether he was married in Virginia or Kentucky but lived in both places.
In the year 1818 he ran a powder mill of which he owned all or a part of It.
He moved to the state of Illinois in the year 1819 when it was opened for homesteading. He was one of the first settlers to locate in what in now Sangamon County Illinois. It Is approximately 10 miles southeast of Jacksonville, Illinois. He owned a farm there, also one in Macoupin County.
He died on his farm in Sangamon County and is buried in Morgan County Illinois on land then owned by his son Benjamin. His wife Jane died in Macoupin County at Brice H. Robertson's and is buried by the side of her husband. |
