Birth of Jesse Roberts
An exact date of birth of Jesse Roberts has not been found. Probably the most accurate indications of his birth are the Russell County tax lists. James, Nathan, Jesse and Daniel were the 4 oldest sons of Cornelius Roberts. Nathan went to Tennessee with his mother and her second husband John Frost. He married in Knox County TN in 1799. Men appeared under their own name on the tax rolls in Virginia when they reached the age of 21. James Roberts first appears on the rolls in 1792 indicating his birth at 1771 or 1772. The next to appear was Jesse Roberts in 1796, indicating his birth as approximately 1776. Next to appear was Daniel Roberts in 1797 indicating his birth as approximately 1777. This agrees with the known facts of the birth of James as circa 1772 and Daniel as 1777. These records would seem to indicate that Jesse Roberts was about one year older than Daniel Roberts.
Mary/Polly Ann Simpson Skaggs was the daughter of William Skaggs (1757-1848) and Mary Simpson.
She was the granddaughter of Jacob Skaggs and Frances.
She was born circa 1779 VA and died 1860-66 Taylor Co KY.
The census records do not give a clear age indication:

A deed in 1857 said he was about 84 years old which would be 1773, a little older than his age would appear from the tax lists. Based upon all of this data, the approximate birth year of Jesse Roberts was 1776.

Death of Jesse and Mary Roberts
The exact dates of the death of Jesse and Mary Roberts are unknown, and there is confusion in the records.
Deed Book 6, pg. 150, dated Oct. 1, 1856, concerns the sale of the dower property of Mary Roberts by 3 of the children of Jesse and 4 of the grandchildren of Jesse. However Deed Book 4, pg. 146, Sept. 12, 1859, and Deed Book 4, pg. 497, March 13, 1860, show Mary Roberts as one of the conveyors of land from the estate of Jesse Roberts. These dates seem to be confused
Deed Book 6, p 58 is for a deed in 1865.
Deed Book 6, p 338 is for a deed in 1867.
Thus Deed Book 6, p 150 is probably 1865 rather than 1856. The appraisal for the estate of Mary Roberts was March 5, 1866. This was for her personal property. She probably died in the summer or fall of 1865.
Two records for Jesse Roberts of Taylor County Kentucky appear in the Green County records. Jan. 1, 1857 Jesse Roberts is mentioned in a court suit involving a slave. In the deed he is described as having great age, loss of memory, diseases", etc. He is also said to be about 84 years old.
The first record regarding the estate of Jesse Roberts (except for Deed Book 6, page 150 which is probably an error in date) is Dec. 14, 1857 when David P. Meers is appointed administrator. There is a record for Jesse Roberts in Green County involving a sale of a slave by Jesse Roberts Oct. 3, 1857. Jesse Roberts must have died in the fall of 1857 in October or November.
