Caldwell County Texas Deaths
John Henry Jordan born Feb. 5, 1865 and died Oct. 6, 1936.
Parents: Bill Jordan born Mississippi and Annie Selby born MS Buried Clearfork Cem.

John Henry Jordan was the youngest child of William Jordan. His death certificate says that his mother was Annie Selby. However, the following marriage from Caldwell County marriages is for the right year and probably is the second marriage of William Jordan.

Caldwell County Texas Marriages

Married by L. C. Sims, J.P.

Caldwell County TX has a marriage license for John Jordan and N. E. Watts Jan. 21, 1886 and for John Jordan and Mary Hoke May 16, 1887.

Since Sarah Ann Jordan married Levingston Watts, the marriage of John Jordan and N. E. Watts is probably the correct one.

Historical Caldwell County Texas

William Jordan is listed on the 1850 census of Texas as residing in Caldwell County, Texas. His wife is listed as Janorious, but this is incorrect, as orphan court record in Lockhart list her as Demarius Reed. William Jordan was born about 1821 in Alabama, and his wife was born about 1817 in Georgia. To this union was born five children. Perlina Jordan born ca 1838 must have died young as there is no record found of her marrying and living in Caldwell County. Sarah Ann Jordan born 1844 in Miss. and married Levingston Watts, Mary J. Jordan, James F. Jordan and Abigail Amanda Jordan.

Demarius Reed Jordan had died by 1860 when we next find William Jordan with a wife named Ann E. Jordan. To this union were born 5 children, Irene Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, Virginia Jordan, William Jordan, John Jordan.

In about 1858 William Jordan made a trip back to Mississippi to help settle an estate on behalf of his children by his first wife Demarius Reed. On returning to Caldwell County, he presented to the court the fact that his children did not inherit all that much from the estate that was settled, and that he had to pay most of the expenses to make the trip back to Mississippi. William Jordan died in Sept. 1870, but we have been unable to find any cemetery where he is buried.

William Jordan was born in Alabama, but his children were born in Mississippi. Since he had a daughter born ca 1838 he probably appeared on the 1840 census of Mississippi unless he was living with his inlaws. His wife, Demarius Reed, died 1850-53, and a guardian was appointed for her children probably because of an estate in Mississippi. Her father probably died about that time. No Jordans show on the census of 1840 for Winston County, but there were Jordan families living in Noxubee and Lowndes Counties which were the two Mississippi counties adjoining Pickens County Alabama. Reed families appear in both counties also. More research needs to be done to determine the whereabouts of William Jordan in 1840.
