Records

David and William Ashbrook were born 1798 and 1802 in Kentucky. Only 4 Ashbrook men were living in KY in 1800. They were Aaron3 and his son Felix4 Grundy Ashbrook (Aaron2). Their children are known. The other two were Levi and John Ashbrook, sons of Levi3 (Aaron2). David and William might have been sons of Levi4 Ashbrook, but based upon the records, it seems more likely they were sons of John4 Ashbrook. In Pendleton County KY are the marriages for two Ashbrook girls, Rachel in 1809 and Eleanor in 1817. The marriage of Eleanor in 1817 says "proof of Levi Ashbrook". She could have been the daughter of Levi4 Ashbrook, but more likely John4 Ashbrook had died and Levi was serving as the guardian of Eleanor. Levi4, John4 and Absalom4 Ashbrook married daughters of John Chenowith --- Eleanor, Mary and Rachel. Possibly all 3 of these Ashbrook men went to KY together, possibly because Chenowith kin were there. Chenowiths did live near the family of William Ashbrook in Missouri. Few records have been found for Absalom Ashbrook after he left Hampshire County. Some traditions say that he went to Kentucky.
